I remember my parents getting a whole pile of manure from a local farmer dumped on the driveway to be put on their garden and flower beds (no wasteful big plastic bags at that time) . And, yes, I had to help shovel it into the wheelbarrow to take it into the backyard. My folks grew the best veggies and their rhubarb crop was legendary (to the point where everyone who came over in spring got some to take home).
