I consider humor a vital part of being true to life, which is the essence of writing for me. I still remember a passage from an essay years back that the opposite of "serious" is not "funny," but rather "unserious." Humor sprays up in my works through banter, wordplay, the absurd, the cracks between the expected and the actual that we trip on and then laugh about.
