The article about painting asphalt white is kind of ridiculous, but after walking around in a hotter than average area, it's really noticeable how asphalt absolutely radiates heat. I think it's something worth doing. It would make walking more feasible and, as the planet heats up, we are going to need to figure out ways of keeping cities cooler.
Consider also: pedestrianizing streets, removing some of the asphalt, planting trees which naturally cool the area.
