Unfortunately, sometimes the family of someone with dementia are too afraid to act. They feel like they’re “protecting the dignity” of the person by doing nothing, BUT being a good fiduciary means being an adult and protecting the person from their own worst impulses — even if doing so is difficult and painful. People choose to do nothing because it’s easier for them — not because it’s better for her. It’s cruel and unconscionable.
