I just finished Principles for a Changing World by Dalio and his assertion is that the push toward collectivism of the right in the form of fascism or the left in the form of communism is all just a result of the debt cycle and because it usually only happens once in a person's lifetime it's hard to see. He argues that collectivism HAS to happen to socialize the losses of the debt through debasement.
I can't get that out of my head, its all flavors of the same problem.
