It is wild to me to listen to people that cling to government benefits. I have never understood what you expect government to do for you? When I got my first job after college I started a retirement fund for myself. I earned basically nothing so my contributions were pathetic, but it was a start. I added a basic medical plan when I could so that a serious accident would not financially ruin me. I’ve been self employed most of my working life so it just became the norm to plan and take care of myself and my family.

Why would you look to someone else to do your job for you?

The problem with benefits is how do you know who really needs them? You can’t just look at who is at a certain age - not everybody at age 60 needs help. In fact, if you do need help at age 60 there should be pretty damn good reason for it. You’ve had you whole life to plan for this. Things certainly happen and some people do need legitimate help, but how do you distinguish from the people that hit the casino every Friday night, or could not hold down a job, or consistently made bad decisions over their whole life that put them in a bad place at age 60?
