authoritarian systems always devolve into a single paranoid leader surrounded by terrified yes man, who just gets told whatever that leader wants to hear .. while at the same time doesn't allow anyone else to make any meaningful decisions. (not to mention that a single person can only focus on a single big problem at a time)
