I never believed Mastodon was going to take over the world.
I always saw its role primarily as a means to validate the concept of a Fediverse in the eyes of developers, press, and early adopters. Which it’s done exceedingly well. Nobody can ever say that decentralized social media has zero appeal.
That is Mastodon’s doing.
But now that Mastodon has proven the concept, this is when the likes of Automattic, Flipboard, and Meta enter the fray. It doesn’t matter whether we like that it’s happening or not. ActivityPub, being an open protocol, means it was always bound to happen.
