I have developed an inherent distrust of anyone who refers to women as "females," even innocently. Just makes my chud-o-meter go beep beep beep. This is true even in queer circles, because the kind of gay men who call women "females" are the same ones who (in my experience) are super transphobic (especially towards transmasc folks) and say "vaginas are gross" a lot.
