Yes I realise that...I lived in deepest rural France and there were a LOT of retired Brits there as well as a huge influx of people in the late 80s buying up houses in villages. That was a double-edged sword though as it deprived young local people of housing in their own communities. A recent visit back to where I used to live shocked me as many places were like ghost villages...bars were shut, shops gone, no-one around.
