I like USB-C for most things, but it's really not suitable for laptops. My current laptop is 4 years old and it will not last forever. Not because it's slow or obsolete; I could easily use it for another 4 years.

No, it's because it has 2 USB-C ports directly attached to the motherboard which are capable of charging the laptop, and one of them has been broken for a few years. Once the other one goes, it's game over.
