44 years ago I was an exchange student in French-speaking Switzerland—a Black US teen living with a dairy farming family. My own mom & I visited them a few years later. I kept in touch with my Swiss “family” over the years, hosting my Swiss sister in the US & returning to visit them several times. I had a special bond with my Swiss dad. He let me ride his tractor, taught me about Swiss aperitifs, Gruyère & “le foin”. I learned he just passed away at age 82, of Alzheimer’s. Je suis écrasée. 💔 🇨🇭
