In 1945, in the wake of WWII, Germany was separated into a larger democratic western part and a socialist/centrally planned eastern part, which is the area of the country where I currently live. In 1961, East Germany built a wall along the east-west border to prevent its citizens from fleeing the oppressive socialist regime. Up to the date the wall was built, voices warning of an impending wall construction were discredited as conspiracy theorists. In 1990, Germany reunified as the eastern part joined the western one. On October 3rd, Germany celebrates German Unity Day to commemorate reunification.
I think this pic goes pretty hard.
