Today I did a $150 Drawing for someone who probably doesn't know about the ChatGPT 4o art generator.
Prompt I received was:
"Roller Derby If possible, with the number 911 and name “Boomslang.”"
I texted it to Cori, who then put a similar prompt into ChatGPT. But he asked for a "middle aged woman" first for some reason: "A cartoon of a roller derby woman. She is middle aged with curly hair wearing all protective gear. The cartoon is black-and-white in the style of the movies Sita Sings the Blues and/or Seder Masochism." He was not as impressed with the results as I was; I especially liked the 3-legged one. I asked him to request Ghibli style and make her younger. The result should please anyone wanting custom art. Finally he requested a Betty Boop version, stippled instead of grayscale.
My point is, AI art has already turned my world upside-down, and anyone who doesn't recognize its power is not paying attention or in denial. I knew this from the moment I saw the early DALL-E images, like the astronaut riding a horse. I knew things would never be the same. People would argue, "but all the extra fingers!" like that problem wouldn't be solved swiftly.
I'm not opposed to AI, just in awe of it. In some ways I am ahead of the game, having been canceled since 2017. I have already adjusted to obscurity. I admit to some schadenfreude anticipating the mediocre artists who canceled me -- for canceling is nowhere more extreme and vicious than in the arts, my former industries of animation, illustration, and comics having fully excommunicated me -- soon to lose everything because of AI, like I lost everything to them being assholes. At least they're losing to something smarter and more talented than themselves, I didn't have that pleasure.
