There is an old sports mantra that "defense wins championships." I decided to examine whether this is the case with the NBA. For my survey, I assessed how every NBA champion going back to 1973-74 compared to the league average for the year in offensive and defensive efficiency. Main take-away: Defense AND offense tend to win championships.
