i really enjoy Notion for note taking
https://www.notion.so/
i run it on Windows and Android and it has a dark mode and you can disable all the fluff and just have a simple app that synchronizes your notes between devices so that for example i can write notes on my PC using big screen and keyboard then check them on my phone later
beats sending e-mails to yourself. the note is synced in real time - you never need to save anything - it is saved as you type - and if you fuck something up you can step backwards and fix it
it's like a second brain if you know how to use it. you literally just write your thoughts down and then you come back the next day read them, add new ones, delete ones no longer relevant etc.
for example right now i'm working on a list of new construction builders in Tampa Bay area - i first wrote the list by taking developer names from Redfin using map outline and relevant filters and noting developer names, then i used LifestoryResearch rankings to order them by rating, currently i am going through each one and listing homes they have that will suit me, then i will start calling them and asking questions and finally i may have to travel to Tampa a 2nd time to check them out in person ...
if i tried to keep all this information in my head it would have never worked - if i used something like Microsoft Word to organize that information then i would have to worry about having different versions of the file on different devices and so on ... i suppose i could use Google Docs or something but Notion is better.
of course it isn't suitable for everything. but it is one of the most useful apps ever easily.
prior to Notion i used Evernote until they crippled the free version. most have switched to Notion which is just like Evernote used to be, only better.
