Today I tapped out of my attempt at a 40 hour water only fast after 24 hours…
Here is what I learned:
1- Addiction - I need to drastically reduce caffeine intake in the lead up - likely requires two weeks prep. The migraine today has been unbelievable suggesting my overall intake might be elevated on a day-to-day.
2- Timing. I started yesterday at 5.30pm and left myself open to a one two punch… the caffeine withdrawal combined with a low blood sugar disaster around 11am. Perhaps next time I’d start around 2pm as this way my blood sugar hurdle should peak around the morning exactly at the post workout stage countered by endorphins.
3- Productivity. The headache totally derailed my plans for the day, in fact I was horizontal most of it. A productive day was lost to withdrawal issues and this then compounded how time then dragged increasing the pressure on the mind.
Good lessons from my first ever attempt at fasting to reset my gut and internal systems. I’ll be keeping up the intermittent fasting weekly and will go for my next periodic fast in a couple of months 👊🏼
