Oh shit I forgot why I originally commented on this: TERRBILE ADVICE (no surprise coming from Fatrick). Tank optics are designed to survive anything, the crew can remotely wash the optic input with solvents that clean oil/paint/dirt etc, they can be pulled back into the cabin and repaired/replaced in a pinch.
Paint bombs were used in urban wars like the Hungarian uprising, but it was to clearly mark the dully painted tank with bright paint, so partisans could more easily identify them.
