Friday, May 26, 2023, on a beautiful sunny day in Chicago, we laid my mother to rest. The wound remains, and it likely always will, but it has been unexpected how such a simple act of burial and prayer can help create such closure. She’s at peace and in the comfort of the Creator. No more pain. No more suffering. The wound remains, but I take solace in her being at peace.
Her passing has brought back a flood of memories and emotions. Perhaps no two stronger than these:
