I found myself short on reading material on a work trip last week and so visited the book store in the airport. Nothing really seemed interesting, so I settled on The Fellowship of the Ring. I've read this book several times and already have a copy, but figured it would be nice to have another. And it's just comforting to visit Middle Earth again and again.
My son is now in second grade. For half of his life, he's been watching Peter Jackson's interpretations of JRR Tolkien's imaginative world with me. We've watched the extended versions of both LOTR and The Hobbit dozens of times together. During the pandemic lockdowns, I had a projector set up downstairs with a bedsheet and it was a nightly ritual.
His favorite version is the 1977 animated The Hobbit by Rankin/Bass. It's much more fast-paced and has lots of memorable songs, which makes it great for kids. Highly recommended if you're introducing littler friends to Tolkien.
