I did not realize the Panama Canal depends on fresh water from an uphill lake to refill the locks, and therefore the entire shipping canal is vulnerable to drought.
Current water restrictions are forcing cuts in shipping traffic and ships are required to be **40%** lighter. That's a huge hit to international shipping caused by drought.
