It’s not strawmanning to add my own perspective on the issue. You said yourself that some people working at nonprofits take no salary. If you do not receive a salary by working at a nonprofit, you need some source of money. Working full-time and not receiving a salary is not sustainable unless you had a trust fund or some other financial arrangement. By refusing to pay nonprofit employees, you’re relegating nonprofit work to people who don’t need money.
I think it just comes down to a difference of what is perceived as normal or excessive. His salary is in line with other Silicon Valley salaries, yet he doesn’t get any stock options or bonuses :/ I don’t agree with the notion that in order to do good work in important fields, you must be a financial martyr unable to raise a family in your city. That is also not a straw man… it is fact. If he’s getting half that or less there’s no chance he can support a family in SF without living in poverty.
