A team of astronomers were studying the central region around the supermassive black hole at the heart of the Milky Way when they noticed a star in a hyperbolic orbit. This means it came from outside the galaxy and will be speeding away into intergalactic space. The ten billion-year-old star was just 0.04 light-years away from SgrA*when it was discovered. It has a similar composition to stars found in dwarf galaxies surrounding the Milky Way.
