Most Republican attacks are disingenuous, but I'm inclined to think Republicans truly believe you can't care about people you're not related to, because I've seen it over and over. Often Republicans support the worst GOP positions until those positions lead to the oppression or injury or death of someone they know and care about, and suddenly they're like, OMG this is awful!
