These days the science books are all just appeals to authority, with science now just words rather than evidence. Even the so-called experiments tend to rely heavily on a big dose of authority to link a "fun" activity with an abstract theory.
Children's non-fiction isn't in the best state. Maybe ecology is a way to heal it.
