They're similar but not the same, and yes, you also need to sort of "learn" the ins-&-outs of Bluesky. The difference is that you can learn about them organically, a ton of random people WANT to converse- and will do so with total strangers- and you can be up & running pretty quickly. The block feature kicks ass, too.
And honestly, there also isn't that weird attitude of sanctimony and/or disdain for people on other sites that a LOT of us find here.
