Been wondering why less than 10% of my students know who rock stars like David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Nile Rodgers are/were.
I'm mid-50s, but I still knew Benny Goodman, Louis Jordan, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Sinatra, and Artie Shaw.
My theory:
My parents played music in the house. A LOT of music.
I think nowadays, everyone's music is on their personal devices, with those damned ear-buds (a poor excuse for decent headphones).
So, music isn't shared or passed down.
Thoughts?
