Freedom of religion is overrated. Freedom from persecution, fine. But I want a secular state firmly subordinating all public expression of religion to the common good (including non-negotiable public education). I say this as a student of religion, but also as an American preacher's son now living under a different political system which controls public cults. At least question it. At least tax their political activities. We are taught all our lives that it's necessary for democracy. It's not.
