i mean look at the asymmetry between referring to a string which BEGINS with 'M' vs one that ENDS with 'I'
i could certainly rephrase the former to look like the latter:
rule2 s = if not (empty s) && head s == 'M' then Just ("M" ++ tail s ++ tail s) else Nothing
thats worse!
