for the sake of everything, we should probably all switch over to RISC OS fonts and their renderer. as the article points out, Postscript fonts can also execute arbitrary code; but i think the RISC OS fonts are just parameterised - but have also had subpixel antialiasing from day one. (even the bitmap fonts support antialiasing!)
**ed.** no, this isn't practical, because of languages with complicated combination rules. see further down the thread.
