I have this conflict around event based discounts and capitalism. On one hand I love the idea of providing discounts for a group to celebrate them on a special day, for example a 50% discount to women on International Women's Day. So the people who the day celebrate get some additional benefit on that day. The conflict is of course, is this not just a cheap opportunity to try and get more sales by focusing your marketing on that event. On one hand it seems like you are supporting that group but in reality as a business you are trying to benefit.
What does everyone think, is it a cheap grab or are the benefits better for the group that receives them, so win-win?
To me on the surface it is like the annual corporate bullshit around Pride where it is patently clear that the businesses literally don't give a shit about LGBTQ+ people for every other day/month of the year but try as hard as their marketing budget can afford for that small amount of time to appear like they do.
