Even though they faced more abuse than anyone else on the birdsite, one of the reasons Mastodon can't build a diverse user base is this kind of arbitrary nonsense.
Instead of worrying about hypotheticals, and operating in a silo of conjecture, they really must include _everyone_ in shaping these kinds of sweeping platform-wide policies.
