So just a quick note on my #rewilding project
At the beginning of the year the pioneer tree plantings went in and are mostly established; not withstanding a very high mortality rate on the hazel trees.
Around that time i also got an ecological survey, to inform the wider rewinding plan. It was of limited use given it was the middle of winter - so more recently, i had a second survey done now we have a more active field
So now i have a good set of baseline data, the next step is the big interventions - 'how can you have interventions when you are rewilding' - simply, im going to do some heavy lifting now to hopefully skip the 'species poor rush grassland' stage on the route to atlantic rainforest
So whats next
- i need to cut back the meadow in the working areas
- need to dig out the 4 wildlife ponds and plan the banks
- I need to plan the second phase of tree-planting
- I need to look at the feasability for the 'working' part of the field
Can you help:
- anyone have any resources on what an irish food forrest looks like?
- anyone have any stark warnings for mistakes i am probably making
