Artificial selection differs from natural selection.
Artificial selection does not necessarily depend on environmental factors but rather on ideology and social norms. Norms can be disconnected from environmental constraints, which still operate no matter what eg natural selection. A genocide is therefore not natural selection, and only serves political and ideological endeavours. Artificial selection may not be in a species best interests.
