In the US (and probably elsewhere), many mental health hotlines will call the police if a situation rises to crisis levels. Often that makes things much, much worse for hopefully obvious reasons. This acts as a deterrent for marginalized groups in need, and often we don't call for help even when we should because we're scared of the cops.
