So, the feature doesn't solve the problem it tries to fix. Instead of somewhat trying to prevent spam accounts to be created in the registration process it only creates a problem for a new users, and to the users that aren't into building a huge number of followers.

In corporate social media it's also a part of encouraging users into the engagement, and content creation. Does the fediverse really need such UX dark patterns for the users to make them feel FOMO based on their activity in the network?
