Twitter analysis from the #Ely #riot this morning

precursor:
If you're uninformed the story so far appears the 2 young boys aged 11 - 14 were chased by a police car while they were on an e-bike. The police forced the kids to make a dangerous manoeuvre into a bus lane, which ended with them hitting or being hit by a bus. Killing at least 1, possibly both children. Police turned up in heavy numbers including with tac gear and started pushing residents and sealing off the road (a major thoroughfare through the area).

Twitter feedback so far we have had:
- BBC Wales going to the scene and pointing at a bin. Leaving out the probable cause of the riot. They also said "The rioters didn't appear to be residents, but youths".

The area is full of working class families, where do they suppose these 'youths' came from? Also, it was clear from the live stream, a large number of the people there were adult men in their 20's - 30's. The locals are mad and have been on the receiving end of this kind of policing for a long time. Ely is one of the poorest parts of Europe statistically, people there are tired.

- Wales online reporting a disturbance with riot police response.

This is another mis-truth, the polic showed up with tac gear first and shut down all local response. One of the mothers of a kid killed on site, is alleged to have been saying she was not allowed to go see her son by the police and they blocked her entry. This made residents unhappy as it was. The addition of police dogs, and people in riot gear pushing them back is akin to what happened in the 70's in Northern Ireland during police raids. It agitates residents and makes the crowd riled up.

- There are a number of popular and low-follower accounts shaming people for rioting and for torching 3 vehicles.

When the police shut down an area like this, force the locals under boot like this, kill people like this, people get angry. When this kind of response happened in Iraq after the 'shock and awe' period, the response was gunfire. It is perfectly natural for a group of people, who's main experience of policing in their area is violent, for them to create barricades that stop the police advance. This was unfair to the car owners, but shaming the crowd is also unfair on the community that is grieving the deaths of 2 children at the hands of over-zealous, violent police.

This is what mainstream medias manufacturing of consent for policing looks like.

One last thing I want to add. It is not uncommon for SWP specifically to kill people. 2 years ago they violently beat a man having a mental episode so badly he died. His parents were calling the police to get him sectioned, so he could get help. After this happened the police declined comment regarding the case for days. This is often done in uniformed organisations so that they are able to 'get the story straight'. It is a cover up in action and they will do it here. If you think that is not the case, then I would also like to draw your attention to other cases of brutality, violence and rape culture that SWP cover up within their own ranks.

As an addendum, misinformation is rife, please take all the statements contained here with a pinch of salt. I would thoroughly recommend viewing the twitter thread of the initial aftermath here: https://twitter.com/TheDryhtscipe/status/1660734500727410699

UPDATE:

BBC released a video of a bike being chased by the police in a car.

There are rumours that there is a video online of the kids being chased, police are reportedly trying to squash it. Will update with links when they emerge.

END OF DAY 2 UPDATE:
Police have confirmed they were chasing children on a bike in a police van after previously denying so. BBC and YouTube have been used to leak the footage of the chase. The police van appears to be driving at speed, it does not appear to be using the blue emergency lights.

Video of chase, here:

In my opinion this smells fishy.
