Some would argue those practices are gutted of their transcendence too. So, take your pick.
I wouldn't say mindfulness is devoid of genuine transcendence personally. That's just not it's focus because it doesn't have the pretence of a religious cosmology. Along with psychedelics, is a gateway to the dissolution and transcendence of self/ego. Basically a way for secular society to have a toe in the door towards more primordial forms of spiritual expression like shamanism et al.
Personally I like that it gets rid of the extraneous/superfluous cultural baggage and creates a scaffold upon which one can rebuild a meditation practice to their own liking. But then I came to mindfulness late in the game after having decades of prior experience with a whole array of other modalities (including Yoga and Buddhism). I never actually learned mindfulness meditation formally, but after reading about it, realised it is essentially the basis of what I distilled down for myself over years on my own.
It's derived from Vipassana, which in spite of it's pretences to the contrary is practically a cult.
