This excerpt really captures the fatuous nature of a lot of the reactionary anti-tech backlash. It’s a lazy mashup of wisps of real objections, presented in a way that makes it clear the author doesn’t actually understand them, just brandishes them vaguely, yelling “look! bad!”.
What does it mean to “own” a rideshare — is owning and driving your own car more worthy than taking a train or a taxi? Was I “deskilled” when I streamed Raiders of the Lost Ark on TV without owning it in the 80s?
