I was with a client this week who works in Embedded systems and mainly with Embedded Linux.
It's always humbling to see how accurate they need to be, and how many factors need to be considered. OS versions, kernel versions, patches, firmware versions, dependency versions all need to work flawlessly together, updates are rare and hard to do. A NPM style list of dependencies is their worst nightmare.
Things like "stuff needs to work for the next 20 years" is a *real* concern here.
