1/ Sometimes I think too much attention is given to the Thoreau/Emerson friendship. Thoreau’s relationships to everyone else are far more revealing and interesting to me. Unfortunately there isn’t as much written about those relationships so you have to go digging a bit, but I did find this gem from Ellery Channing as told by Emma Lazarus after Channing gave her a tour of the places Thoreau loved:
