I like the idea but they have made it progressively more difficult to use non-approved tech and I feel this does the same.

I use a Mac for my work and thry don't like it when install apps not in their approved walled-off garden.

For example: self-hosting open source AI.

Alternaticely, iPhones are a walled garden. Maybe you can use a PWA but that's about it. The exeoectation of customizability on an iPhone doesn't exist. So not sure what really changes.
