The saddest thing to me is the understanding that–looking back across the past 10,000 years of human history, beginning with the pre-historic food crisis that resulted in the switch to agricultural subsistence and ultimately resulted in the maurauding war-hungry Indo-Europeans deciding to hunt other people and thought-colonizing effectively the entire planet–that the problem is ultimately not one of resource availability but resource control, and, given the cultural foundations of our thought processes (which focus on a patriarchal love of strength, control, and weaponry) and the global population in relation to the carrying capacity of the planet, that the problem is only going to get worse…
