I’m seeing all these selections of the worst possible people into Trump’s cabinet, and I’m wondering how we could ever defend from the damage that’s about to be done, or how we’ll ever recover from it.
I get it, these nominations aren’t for people who will do the job; they’re for people who will dismantle public services and sell them for parts. How will we ever hope to get back from this?
This seems weirdly final to me. No one who currently has power wants to hold any bad actor accountable for their actions; in fact, most of them seem to prefer to save the status quo and maybe make a buck. I’m not convinced the US public has what it takes to protest or stage a general strike, because we’re either too poor, too comfortable, too divided and critical of potential allies, or too selfish to do so.
The most likely outcome here is that most of us will just go about our days as the country is disassembled. I’d love to be proven wrong.
