This post reminds me of that song …

Zap maximalists who disrespect likes are black and white thinkers who fail to acknowledge that there is a place for "likes" on NOSTR alongside zaps.
When responding to someone's post, a like notification seen in juxtaposition with a comment is like being spoken to with a smile 😁

Hitting the like button, like smiling at someone when you interact with them, costs you virtually nothing, yet it has the benefit of improving your interpersonal interactions as an indication that you come in peace to this conversation as a friend, not as an antagonist.

This is useful because text alone can be ambiguous and many people are horrible communicators. That makes hitting the like button along with your reply a good way to avoid unnecessary friction in terms of how your replies are received by others.

No, not everyone thinks like that. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if a relatively small minority thinks like that. It doesn't matter though, because some people think like that so it will have the stated effect.

Zaps are always preferred but likes are appreciated.

Also, speaking personally, at this point, if I'm scrolling NOSTR on my phone, I'm not zapping because primal (nprofile…mdf3) 's wallet is KYC and I'm not doing that. I don't have to do it on the web version of Primal and I shouldn't have to do it on the mobile version, yet I do. And no, NWC doesn't work right on Primal mobile so I can't circumvent it. Also, no, I'm not going to invest weekend after weekend of my life into making sure that I can send you 21 fucking sats for every little post of yours I like by figuring out which NOSTR client is buggy or has arbitrary KYC gatekeeping BS to work around.

If you want to judge people for using the like functionality on NOSTR, frankly, you're an idiot devoid of the value of grey area. Not everything is black and white, but I would expect that to be the case with a lot of coder types who actively avoid exercising their people skills by spending all of their time with computers.
