IMNSHO, the scriptures are still, in actual practice and effect, reserved only for the elite...😢
Why do I say this?🤔
Because every church I've ever personally encountered, and every denomination I know of, use and promulgate poor and misleading translations of the scriptures.
I am primarily making this observation about English translations, not having examined those in other modern languages.
There is a much better (though far from perfect) English translation freely available here, if only churches and individuals were to know of it and begin using it:

I make this judgement of its relative quality based upon my personal research and evaluation of the majority of widely used English translations.
Please know that my opinion thus far is based on spot checks in the 2001 version of what I consider to be the most egregious, typical translation offenses in the popular English versions. I have not yet worked through the 2001 translation in detail in its entirety.
Know also that, although generally superior, 2001 still preserves a very distinct and heavy bias toward statism...😢
