We bow respectfully in front of these women who were leading their peoples’ struggle and were pioneers of the women’s movement and women worldwide.
On 9th January 2013 Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan and Leyla Şaylemez were brutally assassinated by the Turkish intelligence servie MIT in Paris. Sakine Cansiz (Şehid Sara) was from the time of her youth involved in the struggle for a free Kurdistan. She spent 12 years in prison in Turkey. Facing all kinds of severe torture and violence, she remained a source of strength and resistance within the prison struggle, thus becoming a hero for her comrades and pioneer for the women’s movement all over the world.
On 9th January 1905 Louise Michel died of natural death in Paris. Louise Michel had been one of the leaders of the Paris Commune. Having escaped a death penalty after the defeat of the commune, she spend overall 11 years in prison, as she remained to play a central role in the worker’s and anarchist struggle in Europe throughout her life.
