I've been throwing together a small personal finance application in vanilla PHP just for fun. It's been ages since I wrote anything using vanilla PHP except for packages and the odd script. Even though it's a little more effort to get up an running than a framework, it's pretty refreshing to see what a framework really does buy me, and consider also what it costs.
