It is the appliance-os of choice that can only ever be exposed to techies or hidden behind proprietary front ends. It leads on penetration, but only when it sacrifices the dream of democratising the desktop. Would this kind of 'backend success' be a win for the fediverse? Yes... But only if my 'digital footprint' can be nomadic and idempotent. It's VERY exciting...but a lot of problems still to solve.
