Nostr’s not a great brand outside of the Nostr world — but we don’t really have a better one yet.
The way the NIPs were set up, it was always “move fast and break things.” And we did — that let us build a ton of clients quickly. But now we’re paying for that speed. The breakage is catching up to us.
The root issue is that the rule was always: “there’s only one way to do things.” That works when a system is small — but it doesn't scale. Look at image formats: .gif, .jpg, .png all coexist. Systems grow by allowing flexibility.
So, for whatever comes next, we’ll need:
- a thoughtful look at what worked (and what didn’t),
- space for multiple ways to solve things,
- and a standardized, scalable core that leaves room to grow.
Basically, something that gives folks all the features they want and room to scale.
